My paternal grandfather was Chiricahua Apache PLUS lived through the depression. Recycling was a natural way of things and nothing was wasted. (not even his words.)
My maternal grandmother was a Cherokee medicine woman. She had great reverence for the world around her – both physical and spiritual.
Now, many years too late, I wish I had listened better and paid more attention.
